More Tampa Bay Spoonbill Images

The image above displays an adult in full breeding colors taking a step forward to take off. Note the beautiful rusty colors on the shoulders and around the eyes. I am not usually a big fan of broken wing shapes, but it looks dashing here. The flying sand and the raised back foot are a definite plus!

Waw!!! The breeding colors really stand out in this take off image. Not only the rusty color is visible on the tail, but the reds are absolutely blazing! I do have one profound regret with this image though… I really wished I had been able to shoot from a lower angle. Why? Because the bottom grey white reflection would have completely disappeared, which would have made this image 1000% better 🙂

A simple fly by at first glance… The nice part about it is that the bird is just above the diffused mangrove tree branches in the background. This gives a sense of orientation and anchors the image. In my mind this is much preferable to a plain blue sky background.
