Look at the size of that fish!!! This is an adult Black Skimmer bringing back a fish to the colony to feed its young. The adult will pre chew on the fish to tenderize it and the young will do its very best to swallow it whole. It can be quite the feat for a small fluffy chick 🙂

Another adult Black Skimmer bringing back food to the nest. Except that this fish is more reasonably sized! Picking the right size fish seems to be an art those birds have quite perfected. It is fascinating to watch fish along the Sarasota shoreline.

What is not to like with those mommy and me pictures? This image is actually backlit with a thin rim of light around the subjects. The rim is especially visible on the fluffy edges of the chick.

Skimmer skimming! Black Skimmers have a very unique way to fish! They have their lower beak take the surface of the water to catch fish. Nature is amazing. Which bird displays the best fishing show? 1. Black Skimmer skimming 2. Brown Pelican diving 3. Reddish Egret hunting I still have a few open spots for the Jun 7-8 Florida Skimmers nesting colony tour. Reach out to me if you would like to join one of the Florida bird photography tour 👍
