The Nxai Pan National Park is a dried salt Pan in the Kalahari desert in Botswana. During the dry season, it is possible to witness amazing animal gatherings around the water holes. In fact it is then very common to gaze at a pair of Impalas crossing a Lion’s way very close by. The open savannah is an ideal hunting ground for raptors, and it is not uncommon to spot Martial Eagles, Fish Eagles and Bateleur Eagles.
The Martial Eagle photograph above was create early in the morning, while the bird was drinking at the water hole. In fact that morning, there was a pair of Martial Eagles. This eagle is amongst the biggest raptors you might see in Africa and is truly impressive. If you come with me to Botswana and the Victoria Falls, you might also photograph Fish Eagles and Bateleur Eagles!
What a nice view! A multi-species herd running together. Those breathless spectacles happen every day in Africa. A photographer’s dream for sure 🙂
